GIS/Remote Sensing and Forestry Project Specialist
Our client is looking for ambitious and experienced applicants who share their vision of helping companies be compliant with nature to join their Voluntary Carbon projects development department. The candidate will be working closely with the voluntary market development team, supporting in the GIS/Remote sensing process automatization to developed carbon projects from the beginning to the end. It is expected for the candidate to also actively participate on other aspects of the project cycle as support on stakeholder consultations and onsite assessments.
NbS GIS expert to manage and execute the development of VCM forestry projects.
Key responsibilities
Develop supervised image classification algorithms (using machine learning) for process automation
Map the land use and land cover changes related to the carbon emission potential reduction manipulating other geographic data in a GIS program generating thematic maps
The candidate will automatize the GIS/Remote sensing processes related to the development of carbon projects
Act as a remote sensing developer (using Python, R and Google Earth Engine between others)
Elaborate technical reports according to the carbon standards; with proven track record of work with VERRA and Gold Standard projects
Key requirements
University Master’s degree in agroforestry related fields
At least 3 years of experience developing GIS processes and assessments within the NbS carbon certification framework
Strong technical understanding of the following Carbon Project types: ARR. REDD+, IFM. Knowledge in ALM is a plus
Knowledge of geoprocessing and skills in the use of GIS for processing, treatment, and analysis of geographic/cartographic data
Proved experience in remote sensing applied in land use and land cover change mapping projects (classification)
Proved experience in Google Earth Engine
Knowledge in programming languages, deep learning, big data, data science and geoprocessing libraries and digital image processing
Experience in carbon project development (REDD+, Blue Carbon, IFM, ARR)
A background in forestry is a must
Full proficiency in English both written and spoken is a must. French, Spanish and/or Portuguese are of great advantage
Social communication skills on an anthropological level for stake holder consultations will be taken as decisive advantage
