Primary responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and data science teams to refine wind power forecasting models.
  • Analyze and interpret various NWP models to identify and rectify local wind anomalies.
  • Implement Model Output Statistics (MOS) corrections to enhance forecast accuracy and detail.
  • Employ machine learning techniques to model and downscale NWP grids locally, improving forecast resolution.
  • Enhance multi-model ensemble methods to optimize wind forecast precision.
  • Conduct thorough data validation and quality control on meteorological datasets.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, or a closely related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in weather forecasting, data science, or a related area.
  • Previous experience in the wind power segment of the renewable energy sector is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Proficient in data visualization tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems.
  • Strong understanding of NWP models.
  • Experience with MOS application.
  • Familiarity with different meteorological data sources and their practical uses.
  • Skilled in applying AI and machine learning techniques to weather forecasting.
  • Ability to develop statistical corrections to improve forecast precision.
  • Strong skills in data preprocessing, validation, and quality assurance.
  • Capable of developing, validating, and implementing predictive models.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive, innovative, and self-motivated.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Italian is beneficial.
