Our client was launched in June 2022 by a stellar consortium of shareholders. They aim to build, own, and operate a green iron plant in southern France, using Hydrogen and avoiding the high CO2 emissions from classical steel production. Product will be DRI/HBI a key and value added ingredient in steel production. They will be a major contributor to decarbonize steel production in Europe and respond to a growing demand for zero carbon steel products.

The Role

A seasoned Project Execution Specialist with > 15 years’ experience preferably in the mining and metals industries. Must have worked on mega complex execution projects from concept phase, pre-feasibility, and feasibility, through to implementation, commissioning and close out. Solid track record, as a Project Specialist, who can get the job done safely, on time and within budget, coupled with the ability to successfully apply contractual requirements, and increase shareholder value.

Purpose of the role

Provides direction and project management to ensure project completion in accordance with contractual obligations. Defines project goals and devises methods to accomplish them; develops in-depth knowledge of customer objectives, contract terms, and corporate policies. Plans, organizes, manages, and controls projects with the established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements. Supervises project personnel through subordinate leaders. Typically manages a single highly complex or mega project or multiple, complex projects/programs with high risk elements. Ability to visualize and design new concepts and ideas related to technical/functional projects. Broad knowledge of business operations and ability to implement and lead organizational change effectively within project scope. Solutions are derived from interpreted and applied general information and consultation with other individuals. Typically manages work directly through project leads or other project managers. Often serves as a proposal manager for large and mega projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leads large cross‐functional internal and external project teams and potentially subcontractors or other PMs.
  • Suggests the ideal organization, oversees, motivates, and monitors the performance of the Project team, ensuring quality and timeliness of assignments and roles, and addresses any performance gaps.
  • Create strong collaborative team environment by establishing common vision, setting clear expectations and accountability
  • Experienced in the use of project delivery methodology and associated tools for large complex projects (FEL, FEED, others)
  • Demonstrated capability of overseeing very large‐scale and highly complex projects with responsibility for the full performance of the project (planning, directing, supervising, and controlling all technical, fiscal and administrative functions)
  • Plays a leading role in defining the strategy and managing procurement and mixed contracting strategy
  • Has experience with managing complex scope changes
  • Manages projects and monitors progress in an ordered, accurate way, provides accurate and timely information.
  • Has completed a full mega and complex project from start to finish and spent time in the field implementing what was engineered.
  • Has coordinated the preparation of an integrated set of project execution plans for large/mega projects or complex projects (i.e., engineering, HSE, Quality, procurement, project controls, estimating, construction, etc.)
  • Manages execution, coordination, and implements regular reviews/controls to track project progress.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous project management processes and systems, including risk management, quality control, and change management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Project Control Reports – identifies problem areas and implements recovery plans.
  • Interprets and understands all the key elements of the project schedule to identify adverse trends and take correction action.
  • Applies forward planning with schedule to resource the project appropriately.
  • Has successfully managed the application of appropriate coordination, reviews and follow ups across the project.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Experienced in successful workshare execution

Position requirement

  • 20+ years’ experience, typically 15+ years of relevant supervisory, project management and/or technical experience. Workshare EPCM, EPC including site assignments Multi-Cultural / Multi-National environments
  • Advanced knowledge of CO2 reduction technologies highly advantageous
  • Excellent network in the iron and steel industry highly advantageous
  • Master’s Degree, or equivalent, in related field or applicable discipline (Engineering/Sustainability/Mining)
  • Professional registration in local jurisdiction. Certified Program Management Professional by a globally recognized project management organization (IPMA, APM, PMI, AIPM)
