Head of Verification
Our client is a carbon project verification standard looking for their Head of Verification.
The role
- Regularly engage with external stakeholders (Project Developers, Brokers, End-Buyers, VVBs) to collect feedback, insights, and suggestions for improvement.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (R&D, Certification) to obtain feedback, insights, and suggestions, ensuring our tools (field app, web interfaces, and data products) adhere to our methodologies.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with external accreditations (ICROA, IC-VCM, CORSIA) and national regulations for active projects.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and the latest scientific advancements.
- Work closely with the Executive and R&D teams to maintain a unified company roadmap, including major updates to the Standard and the development of new methodologies.
- Ensure the methodology team regularly updates the Standard, with oversight and final validation.
- Liaise with the Technical Advisory Board and manage its ongoing operation.
- Oversee all operations on the registry, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and reporting of carbon units associated with certified projects.
- Establish and maintain a strong network of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs), coordinating audit processes and addressing any queries or concerns.
- Address grievances from stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Collaborate as a member of the Executive Team, engaging in strategic discussions and providing valuable input and perspectives.
- Lead and mentor the Head of Methodologies and their team responsible for various aspects of Standard management, offering guidance, support, and growth opportunities while fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Manage day-to-day responsibilities, including team syncs, weekly 1-1s, and quarterly performance reviews to maintain the performance and well-being of your team.
Required experience
- 7+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Implementing and managing land-based projects, preferably nature-based carbon projects
- Drafting methodologies for land-based standards, preferably carbon standards
- Excellent knowledge of carbon markets, leading accreditations (i.e., ICVCM, CORSIA, ICROA), leading standards (VCS, Gold Standard), and ARR or REDD+ methodologies (e.g., VM0047)
- Experience as a public-facing spokesperson for an organization.
- 5+ years of experience managing cross-functional teams and complex projects
- Proven project management skills with the ability to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope
- Ability to plan and maintain a comprehensive roadmap for the organization’s objectives
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage with stakeholders at all levels. Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in other languages is an advantage.
