Project Manager for a Power-to-Liquid plant

To achieve the Paris climate protection goals in aviation, there is a need for hydrogen-based aviation fuels (eSAF). Therefore, our client is looking for individuals to commission the eKerosene production plant in Emsland and to develop further plants in the Global South.

Founded in 2019 as a non-profit GmbH for climate protection. Our client is at the forefront of sustainable aviation with the world’s first e-kerosene production plant in Emsland, recognized by the German Sustainability Award 2024. This plant demonstrates the technical feasibility, certification, distribution, and marketing of e-kerosene.

They collaborates with technology manufacturers and conducts research with renowned institutes and universities. Its customers include major players in the European aviation sector.

In developing countries like Indonesia, Brazil, and the Ivory Coast, they develops pilot projects for an eSAF infrastructure in partnership with local energy and biomass companies.

So there is a lot to do on the way to more sustainable aviation.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • You will oversee the operation of the world’s first power-to-liquid plant in Werlte (Emsland, near Osnabrück) on site together with your colleagues in Berlin and with the teams from the neighboring power-to-gas and biogas plants.
  • Together with their suppliers, you ensure the continued functionality of the PEM electrolyzer, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and the direct air capture unit and gradually optimize the entire system.
  • Together with competent engineering offices, the responsible monitoring bodies and
  • relevant authorities, you ensure continuous compliance with safety standards, approval and customs regulations.
  • You will work closely with the partner refineries who purchase their synthetic crude oil and wax
  • You present the facility to current and potential partner companies as well as interested people from business and politics on site and at relevant (online) events.
  • You support the development of new projects based on the technology in Werlte in countries of the Global South with your expertise remotely – and, when the time comes, on site in countries such as Brazil, Kenya, India, …
  • You come to the office in Berlin regularly. There you report the status of the PtL plant directly to management and coordinate with colleagues.

What you bring with you

Your heart beats for climate protection, you want to change something and you are not afraid to step out of your comfort zone and into new subject areas.

You have…

  • A degree in process engineering, (chemical or industrial) engineering, natural sciences or comparable subjects,
  • Proven expertise in project management,
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience with practical-technical relevance,
  • Expertise in the field of hydrogen, power-to-liquid, biomass-to-liquid, plant engineering and/or sustainable energies in general,
  • Hands-on mentality and entrepreneurial thinking,
  • Initiative and independent working style,
  • Commitment to environmental/climate protection,
  • Fluent knowledge of German and English.
