Our client is one of Europe’s leading renewable energy consultancies. With its expertise in wind, solar and BESS energy, our client supports investment funds, banks, major energy production groups and large industrial energy consumers throughout Europe. They offer a wide range of solutions covering the technical and financial operation of wind, solar and BESS farms, as well as advising investors on the acquisition or sale of assets.
As part of its growth, our client is looking to strengthen its UK client base with a Senior Business Development Manager. Our client has a good track record in wind, solar and BESS asset management in the UK, and plans to continue growing in the area, increasing business volume and selling new services with the recruitment of this position.
This person should have a strong technical background in combination with outstanding business development experience in any one of these sectors. Knowledge of the technical side of the renewables is paramount for this role.
Job Description
You will work closely with the technical team and related stakeholders; more specifically, the Senior Business Developer will be responsible for:
New Business Development
- Find potential new clients and turn this into increased business (making use of an existing network is a plus).
- Identify the decision makers within the client organisation & formalise an approach through them (C-Suite/Head-of etc).
- Cold call as appropriate to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
- Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s practice leaders/Principals.
- Plan approaches and pitches.
- Build offers and pricing for the solutions/services proposed to clients.
- Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
- Set up and manage the sales and marketing budget in the area.
Client Relationships
- Enhance relationships with existing client base. Present new products and services to these.
- Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
- Engineering background is a plus e.g. perform ability to perform technical tasks when technical team is busy (e.g. site inspection, contract review, etc.)
- Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
- Attend exhibitions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
- Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
- Travel is expected for representation at specific conference, and for a twice-yearly company event in Europe.
Qualifications
The candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- A technical background, shown with an Engineering Degree or direct engineering experience within the renewables.
- 5+ years of experience within a UK focused business development role, with an established track record of growing a UK client base in the renewables (onshore wind/solar preferred).
- Autonomy in their ability to build a client pipeline & portfolio, with an existing network to serve as a prospect base.
- Ability to act as a UK ambassador for our client; grow the client base, manage existing relationships, and grow the team internally.
- Native English, with an additional language preferred (French).
