Job overview

The Senior Power Trader will be responsible for managing and optimizing the company’s power trading portfolio. This includes executing trading strategies across different markets (spot, intraday, forward) to maximize profitability while adhering to risk management principles. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power markets, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of market drivers, regulations, and trading platforms.

Key responsibilities

  • Power Trading: Execute trades in short-term and long-term markets, optimizing the portfolio based on market conditions and company strategy.
  • Market Analysis: Continuously monitor and analyze market trends, fundamentals, and price signals to inform trading decisions.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks related to trading activities in line with the company’s risk policies. Proactively hedge positions where necessary to mitigate risk exposure.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement trading strategies to exploit market opportunities and ensure profitability. Continuously optimize strategies based on changing market conditions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all trading activities comply with applicable regulations and market rules. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes affecting power markets.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including analytics, operations, risk management, and portfolio management, to ensure efficient trading operations and aligned objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in power trading, with a proven track record of successful trading strategies and profitability. Experience in European markets is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, including market structure, pricing, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to model and interpret complex market data.
  • Proficiency in trading platforms and tools (e.g., Bloomberg, Trayport, etc.).
  • Strong risk management acumen and understanding of market risk dynamics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-driven with strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
