Position Description
The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of air-cooling condensers and thermal systems for geothermal powerplants. The role involves detailed thermodynamic and hydraulic analyses, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and adherence to industry standards and safety protocols. The ideal candidate brings significant expertise in air-cooled condensers, heat transfer systems, simulation tools, and a strong track record of performance improvement in industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of air-cooled condenser systems for industrial applications.
  • Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and mass balance calculations, and equipment specifications.
  • Oversee the selection, specification, and commissioning of air-cooled condenser equipment.
  • Perform thermodynamic and hydraulic analyses to ensure system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and recommend solutions for performance improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Execute design and specification of geothermal power plant facilities and upgrades to existing facilities.
  • Develop process design documents, including control philosophies, simulations, material balances, and engineering calculations.
  • Engage with major equipment suppliers to optimize facility design and evaluate new technologies.
  • Act as the process lead during equipment supply contract negotiations.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement safety and operational enhancements.
  • Lead or participate in risk assessments, incident investigations, and learning teams.
  • Support project teams during commissioning, performance testing, and facility start-ups.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical).
  • 5+ years of process engineering experience.
  • Expertise in process operations and air-cooled condenser design.
  • Proficiency in plant monitoring and modeling software (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS, Pro II, ProMax).
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings (P&ID, PFD, HMB, etc.).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards for processes, plants, and equipment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience leading engineering efforts and working in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to evaluate and integrate new technologies into projects.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in geothermal or refinery facilities.
  • Proficiency in CFD analysis software for design improvement.
  • Training or experience in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, Agile).
  • 5+ years of experience in facilities, pipeline, or pump design and operations.

Location
This position is based in Houston, TX, or Reno, NV, with eligibility for hybrid work flexibility. Regular in-office presence and occasional travel to field locations will be required.
