The Beginning of a Journey Towards Sustainability

On December 6, 2023, Shota’s sustainable journey began as he entered the offices of CGS in Amsterdam. A 22-year-old Japanese student, Shota had just started his internship at this company specializing in sustainable recruitment. Originally from Tokyo, he was pursuing political and economic sciences at Meiji University, one of Japan’s most prestigious institutions. His journey had already taken him to Rotterdam for a university exchange, and his growing interest in sustainability naturally led him to CGS. This journey would soon become the inspiration for The Ecological Odyssey, a story of personal growth and commitment to sustainability.

A Professional Background with a Purpose

Shota was no stranger to the professional world. With five years of experience in placement and as vice president of a student organization, he had always managed to blend passion with commitment. During Shota’s sustainable journey at CGS, he explored the Japanese market, diving into research on sustainable development and employment opportunities.

The Decision to Embrace a Sustainable Path

Six months later, his internship was coming to an end. His colleagues in Amsterdam were not only impressed by his work ethic but also inspired by his genuine commitment to a more sustainable future. But Shota’s quest was far from over.

To mark the end of this professional adventure, he decided to take on a personal challenge: return to Japan solely by train and bus. This bold and ambitious project aimed to minimize his carbon footprint and remain true to the values he had discovered and promoted at CGS. No planes. No cars. Just land routes, connecting countries and continents like travelers of old, all while limiting his environmental impact.

The Ecological Odyssey: A Personal and Professional Journey

This long journey, through Europe, Central Asia, Russia, and finally Japan, was not only a personal adventure but also a unique opportunity to understand the ecological challenges each country faced. It was a voyage at the heart of sustainability, a journey for which Shota thanked his colleagues and mentors at CGS, without whom he would never have embarked on such a venture.
